Old Montreal's multidisciplinary art centre Phi Centre—and one of the best galleries and museums in Montreal—is opened an all-new rooftop stage this evening for live music, and admission is free to see today's acts.
From June 26 to August 27, the rooftop terrasse will host a new live music series called Sonication, "a hybrid experience, halfway between a film set and a festive happening," reads the art centre's website. The area is intended to act as a space where musicians are able to perform, while visitors can watch from screens placed throughout the insides of the building's fourth floor with sets "rich in artistic promise, between discovery, playful indulgence and relaxation."

Today's opening event begins at noon, but the Facebook event details that it will run until 9:30pm tonight. The artists featured throughout the day will be moderated by the rapper Fabjustfab from Random Recipe, and the performers include the Quebec rap scene luminary Sarahmée, the indie-Afro electro artist Pierre Kwenders, hip-hop professor and musician Narcy, and the Montreal-based rapper, beatboxer, singer-songwriter, DJ, producer and steelpan player FABjustfab. Note that concessions such as drinks and food will not be available, so consider hitting up a restaurant or bar in Old Montreal before checking it out.
Currently, the Phi Centre's programming for Sonication only includes today's programming, but more events will be added to the event page as the summer progresses.
