On August 1, 1945, Miami-Dade’s first beach exclusively for colored people opened to the public. It was only accessible by boat at the time but it quickly became a cherished retreat for the county’s black community. Now the waterfront park in Key Biscayne is open to all and celebrating its rich history with the entire county. On Saturday, head to Virginia Key for a day of outdoor activities that includes biking, paddleboarding, kayaking and rollerblading. Sign up for the socially distanced activity of your choice and enjoy cake and ice cream on the park in honor of its big day.
