This fastidiously researched world-premiere play by Rogelio Martinez explores how a 5-year-old refugee became a political pawn in an election with international consequences. Fleeing Cuba for Miami with his family in 1999, Elián González was discovered in an inner tube off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, his future determined by a media-saturated tug of war between immigration enforcement, the U.S. State Department and Cuba’s Communist government.
