It’s not often a humble sidewalk sign proclaiming “Best in the city” ends up being true, but in the case of Uptown 66, the tacos really do exist in their own Miami league. This walk-up window by chef Nuno Grullon serves up a brief menu of Mexican street food classics all executed to perfection. There’s only a smattering of outdoor seating, but not to worry: if you order to go, it travels extremely well. (Take it from someone who’s ordered from Uptown 66 literally dozens of times since it opened during the pandemic.) Elote, guac, nachos, flautas, burritos, churros—pretty much anything you order comes out fresh and full of flavor. As for the tacos, they come on hand-pressed heirloom corn tortillas which have yet to crumble apart on us despite heaping piles of marinated fillings.
Order this: Guacamole and chips, a steak burrito lined with crispy potatoes, 48-hour braised birria tacos and churros to finish.
