Sushi Garage’s gastronomic merits aren’t threatened by its cool, SoHo-meets-South-Beach vibe. In fact, the packs of models, tourists and other too-cool-types you’ll find here on any given night only add to its appeal. Admittedly the restaurant’s culinary pedigree bodes well, too, with restaurateur-partners Jonas and Alexandra Millán and chef-partner Sunny Oh at the helm—all of whom honed their chops at sister property Juvia. Though that’s where the similarities end. James Beard Foundation Design Award-winner Alejandro Barrios, who also had a hand in creating the look for Juvia, went industrial here with an exposed ceiling that pays homage to the neighborhood’s past as a warehouse district. The menu is also more brazen with rolls like the tuna chicharron (think crispy tuna) and a truffle nigiri, both of which are out of this world.
