LoKal

4 out of 5 stars

With plenty of outdoor seating, this unassuming neighborhood spot is ideal for families and dogs, which benefit from their own pet-friendly menu

Time Out says

Matthew Kuscher knows exactly what to put in between his burger buns to keep the Miami masses coming back for more, so, naturally, we invited him to hold court at Time Out Market Miami. Learn how our market curation works here, but basically we tasted his food, reviewed his restaurants (LoKal, Kush, the Spillover, Vicky’s House and Stephens Delicatessen), and ultimately, recommended him for a coveted spot. Here’s why:

Matthew Kuscher’s neighborhood burger joint is popular with people and canines alike (yep, they’ve got a special dog menu, too). Its selection of grass-fed beef burgers runs the gamut from traditional to only-in-Miami, like the famous Cuban frita burger and Juan’s Fidy-Fidy—a decadent patty made from 50 percent Florida beef and 50 percent Florida bacon. Most of what you’ll find on the menu is made from locally sourced ingredients (including the tender gator bites) and produced in-house. Brew-loving Kuscher has also made sure to stock an assortment of local beers. Expect long wait times on the weekend, plus a swarm of pups (and their owners) crowding around the bowl of dog treats near the entrance.

Time Out tip: Coconut Grove residents who show either a Code 33 card or their driver license with a 33133 zip code get their second beer or glass of wine free Monday through Thursday. As for the phone booth inside the restaurant, it’s actually a secret entrance to the milk-shake bar next door.
