Brothers Assaf and Tal Hadad missed the food back home so much that they decided to take matters into their own hands. Named for the street where they lived in Israel, Hadekel 1 is a celebration of Jewish flavors found in cuisines from all over the world. The casual menu features shakshuka, which is said to have originated in North Africa; sabich boureka, a traditional Iraqi sandwich of hardboiled eggs, tomato-cucumber salad and tahini served atop a puff pastry; and fattoush salad, among other dishes. The kosher spot also operates as a coffee shop, slinging strong brews and delectable fresh-baked pastries for pairing. The mini chocolate babkas—soft, doughy and heavy on the cocoa—are out of this world.
