The Wynwood Yard has always been tough to pin down. Is it a concert venue, culinary destination, event space? The closest answer is: all of the above. And now the Yard’s patrons have more to enjoy with the new Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill, the space’s first permanent dining concept not on wheels. Built from modified shipping containers, Charcoal centers its menu on the freshest local ingredients possible. Nearly everything on the constantly shifting menu, even the irresistible skillet-baked cornbread ($9), is cooked using a Josper grill, a charcoal burning contraption that can reach up to 800 Fahrenheit. Dishes are creative and, whenever possible, local. The chicken ($14–$21) is raised in Ocala. The daily fish (market price) rarely disappoints. And each week Charcoal breaks down a whole Florida-raised hog or lamb, offering the juiciest bits for a lucky few.
