Alma, whose name means soul in Spanish, delivers on its moniker, serving spirited Spanish cuisine in an inviting, modern environment. Chef and coowner Sergio Chamizo designed a tapas menu that only loosely adheres to what the city’s come to identify with Spanish small plates. While shareable, his are made with high-end proteins and elevated with foams and artful presentations. Items such as the steamed mussels, glazed octopus and seared swordfish come at a premium (dishes are small and most upwards of $15), but you won’t feel gypped dining here—just satiated, content and perhaps with a lot less in your bank account than when you walked in.
