The Miami cabaret is small but mighty. We may not have a cabaret venue on every block, but the ones we do have pack a punch and are worth your time. Some channel the famous Cuban cabarets of yesteryear and some—believe it or not—have mermaids. It’s a fun, out-of-the-box activity to add to your itinerary of hopping from the best bars in Miami to the best restaurants in Miami and (if you’re still awake) the best clubs in Miami. After all, what could be more Miami than a good cabaret show? Drinks, music, dancing, partial nudity—we couldn’t think of four things that better sum up this city.
What is it? While not a dedicated cabaret venue, the Faena Theater is one to keep an eye on. It has hosted original cabaret and variety productions and is currently running a show called Tryst—a Lovers’ Rendezvous. It’s very Cirque du Soleil meets Moulin Rouge.
Why go? Though it’s very pricey, the Faena Theater has to be one of the prettiest venues in the entire city. And the dancing you’ll see within its gilded walls is second to none.
What is it? This lively restaurant and entertainment venue blends elements of old-world Cuba and modern Miami through its menu, cocktail program and performances.
Why go? It’s always a party but on select Thursday evenings, you’ll experience its new Kubaret, featuring a cocktail hour followed by a three-course dinner and a show. It may not be the Tropicana, but it’s as close as you’re going to get the days.
What is it? A corner of old-school Fort Lauderdale that puts on a dying form of burlesque: the mermaid show. Performers dressed like sirens perform a full underwater cabaret routine, which patrons watch from portholes behind the bar every weekend.
Why go? They just added their very first merman to the show! Yay for inclusivity!
