Miami culinary darlings Luciana Giangrandi and Alex Meyer, the chefs behind the Michelin-starred restaurant Boia De, are bringing their impossible-to-get food to the masses. Starting today, the limited-edition Boia De bowl—a bright and briny, Italian-inspired creation—is available to order from all seven South Florida locations of the thoughtfully-sourced salad chain, Sweetgreen.
Like the restaurant, the Boia De bowl ($15.95) is a nod to Italy, full of less-expected ingredients and umami flavors that don’t overwhelm. An arugula and shredded kale base is topped with roasted tomatoes, sliced olives and a medley of crunchy, lemony asparagus and za’atar bread crumbs, while a scoop of blackened chicken packs the protein. But the true star is the rich and creamy mound of stracciatella cheese. It’s all drizzled over with a puttanesca dressing with hints of anchovies and chili peppers.
Giangrandi and Meyer, who cut their teeth working in New York institutions like Eleven Madison Park and Carbone, have amassed a fiendish following since debuting their Buena Vista restaurant in 2019. The charming nook is notoriously tough to book—though the team’s latest endeavor, the neighboring Walrus Rodeo, has helped ease the demand, if only slightly.
According to the couple, the collaboration with Sweetgreen was a natural fit and fun challenge working within the parameters of the format. As longtime friends of the Sweetgreen cofounders, it was only a matter of time before they were tapped to come up with their own creation, following up similar partnerships with the likes of Momofuku’s David Chang in New York.
“They texted and we were immediately down,” says Meyer. The dish came together in the Sweetgreen kitchen over a brief couple of days, and the Boia De bowl made its first appearance at a private event during this past South Beach Wine and Food Festival. The instant-classic, limited-edition bowl will be available to order from South Florida Sweetgreen locations online and in-store through June 12.
