Is there a food more universally liked than pizza? We think not—a fact that makes ranking the very best forms of the dish across the world a difficult task. With so many options, it's hard to pin down a list of the very best and, yet, that's exactly what the editors at Time Out did when revamping their guide to the best pizzas in the world.
Topping the link is, of course, an Italian entry: Pizzeria da Attilio in Naples.
Overall, though, the U.S. earned a respectable three entries: Scarr's Pizza in New York, Milly Pizza in the Pan in Chicago and Miami's own Eleventh Street Pizza, which lands at position number 14.
Contributor Falyn Wood specifically calls out the eatery's hot honey Sicilian when discussing the supremacy of the joint. Made with organic Bianco DiNapoli tomatoes, mozzarella, pepperoni, roasted red onion, Calabrian chili paste and honey, the pie's deliciousness also relies on a naturally leavened sourdough started that has been nurtured for over seven years.
"Made with both new and old-world firing techniques and topped with premium organic ingredients, and you’ve got a pretty perfect pie every time," writes Wood. "While a monster NYC slice here sops up the late-night booze, we go for the thick Sicilian squares covered with cupped pepperoni and drizzled with Calabrian chilli paste and honey. No matter what you order, expect ample sprigs of fresh basil to top it all off."
One more tip: the Japanese milk bread garlic rolls served at both Eleventh Street Pizza locations happen to be simultaneously sweet and savory, making them another must-order when visiting.
