New Instagram bio, new focus.

Miami accessories designer Gelareh Mizrahi is pausing production on her adorable handbags (Kylie Jenner is a big fan of the minis, if you didn’t know) to help combat the coronavirus pandemic by procuring medical equipment for area hospitals and shipping it to them directly.

After temporarily closing her Design District shop, Mizrahi used her connections in China to find a factory approved by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to produce personal protective equipment. She found that for $10, she could supply a health practitioner with a kit that includes an N95 mask, goggles, a face shield and gloves.

There’s a nationwide shortage of protective equipment and, according to Mizrahi who spoke to doctors at Mount Sinai in Miami Beach, a grassroots effort such as hers helps hospitals get the necessary gear faster than if they’d order it themselves.

So far, the designer has raised over $23,000 on Go Fund Me and already sent one shipment of supplies to hospitals. But there’s more to do. To donate or learn more about Mizrahi’s campaign to protect those who protect us, visit her page on gofundme.com
