Tripadvisor has just announced the winners of its annual 2024 Travelers' Choice Awards for the Best of the Best Restaurants, a global ranking based on more than 1 billion reviews and contributions in the massive online travel guide. The awards are broken out into several categories, from fine dining to pet-friendly, quick bites, sustainable and more.
On both the national and worldwide levels, one Miami restaurant stood out above all the rest—and you might not have ever heard of it. Miami Beach’s That’s Amore - Italian Restaurant made history by securing the top spots in both the casual dining and hidden gems categories in the U.S., while also ranking as the No. 19 best outdoor restaurant in the world.
Located at 620 Ocean Drive, That’s Amore is a “relaxed, homey restaurant” smack in the middle of the South Beach chaos, according to Tripadvisor’s review. “The pizzas are top notch—go for the margherita paired with a glass of the house red—the staff is attentive, and the desserts are *chef’s kiss*,” the writeup continues.
We have to admit, this restaurant—which Tripadvisor reviewers praise for its fair prices and authentic Sicilian ambiance—was not on our radar. We tend to steer clear of Ocean Drive and its many tourist traps, especially when it comes to Miami Beach restaurants. So it’s both surprising and refreshing to come across a spot that offers great value for Italian fare (at least, according to the tourists visiting Miami Beach).
With nearly 1,000 reviews on Tripadvisor and over 8,000 on Google we wouldn’t exactly call this spot a “hidden gem,” but with its iconic location overlooking Ocean Drive and the windswept dunes of Lummus Park, we can sort of see why it ranked so highly among the world’s best outdoor restaurants. Though we'd still prefer to perch at one of our favorite waterfront restaurants in Miami, we are curious to judge for ourselves what all the hype is about.
