Turns out, everyone loves South Beach. Travel map app Visited just crunched the numbers and came up with a ranking of the most popular beach destinations around the world—and our very own South Beach makes it to number two, the only U.S. location in the top five and one of two in the top 20 (Venice Beach in California also makes an appearance).

"If you are looking for a great beach with a bit of glamor South Beach is where you want to be," reads the study (not that you needed anyone to tell you, of course. "It is known for its art deco architecture, celebrity chef’s restaurants, shopping on Lincoln Road Mall and endless nightclubs."

Although we are not entirely sure about the methodology behind the list, we'll take it at face value. After all, we can't really disagree with much of the published findings.

Cancun in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula tops the overall ranking, with the survey specifically mentioning its all-inclusive resorts, nightlife opportunities and popularity during spring break. The top three is rounded out by Majorca in Spain, with its limestone mountains, sheltered covers and historical architecture.

What we take from this all? The world is full of beautiful beach destinations worthy of exploration but, if you're going to stay in the U.S., Miami is where it is at!

The 10 most popular beach destinations in the world:

1. Cancun, Mexico

2. South Beach, Miami

3. Majorca, Spain

4. Cannes, France

5. Tenerife, Spain

6. Amalfi Coast, Italy

7. Bondi Beach, Australia

8. Gran Canaria Island, Spain

9. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

10. Copacabana, Brazil
