There are certain things we expect from people in Miami. Are we surprised that Miamians rank slightly above average when it comes to partaking in, um, illegal substances? Not really. But who knew that we loved sushi more than just about anyone else in the country?

It’s small discoveries like this that makes our Time Out City Index so interesting. The Time Out City Life Index charts the most exciting cities in the world right now based on thousands of survey results. We ranked 32 cities on criteria including food, drink, culture, nightlife, local neighborhoods, friendliness, affordability, happiness, and whether people were proud to live in their city.

Where did Miami clock in? The good news: people generally felt Miami is getting better, not worse. Plus, 80 percent of Miamians asked considered themselves “happy.”  A huge 85 percent of you ate out at a restaurant this week and 92 percent approve heartily of our city’s culinary scene. Your low points include public transportation (obviously), and 61 percent of you agree that this city is too damn expensive, with an average night out hovering around $122.28.

The naughty news: 84 percent of you wild cats say it’s easy to have sex in Miami. Making friends, on the other hand, is more difficult and only 14 percent of you made a new friend last week. And, in what’s possibly the clearest correlation in all our findings, over half of you said you were hungover this past week. Could that be because 83 percent of you have gone out on the town on a weeknight this last week? We have a hunch.
