New research has revealed what some of us already know—and others of us may disagree with: Miami is a pizza-lover's dream. A recent study, published by real estate tech company Clever has declared Miami the No. 8-best pizza city in America.
To come up with their rankings, Clever reviewed restaurant and geographical data and surveyed 1,000 Americans to get their hottest pizza takes. Metrics like "pizza reputation" and online search activity for 25 pizza-related terms (they call this the "pizza passion" score) were weighted most heavily, while average price, reviews and pizza places per capita were also factors.
How did Miami stack up? Home to an impressive 5.1 pizza joints per 100,000 residents, our pizza restaurants also score well with the internet trolls, touting an average Yelp rating of 4.2 stars out of 5. Miami's pizza passion score came in at 77 out of 100 across Clever's pizza-related Google search terms and actually ranks No. 1 in online search activity for "sausage pizza." (Suck it, pepperoni!)
Speaking of, the average cost of a large pepperoni pizza in Miami is $21.65 compared to New York City, where the average cost of a large pepperoni pizza is $35.08—the most expensive out of all 50 cities studied. Actually, New York didn't even crack the top 15, with cities like L.A, New Orleans, Chicago and even Orlando, somehow, beating out the Big Apple (they came in at No. 19).
As for best and worst, Detroit came in as the No. 1 pizza city in America for the second year in a row, while San Antonio came in as the worst along with Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City.
So is it true—are we really that good (and far superior to New York)? Check out our picks for the best pizza in Miami and decide for yourself.
