Weeks after Miami-Dade reopened its parks to people, the county is ready to welcome back pets. As of Monday, June 8, Mayor Giménez ordered that all dog parks could reopen, though new, stricter guidelines would be put in place. The biggest difference you’ll notice will be at dog runs and free-roaming greenspaces, which are now requiring dogs to be leashed at all times. Below, a breakdown of the new rules to follow when out with your pup.

Your dog must be leashed. Per the mayor’s new order, all dogs must be leashed even in parks that were previously designated for off-leash play.

The hours of operation may have changed. Opening hours will differ from city to city, though most are operating from 7am to 8pm. The City of Miami seems to be the only municipality closing its facilities early, at 7pm.

You’ll need to wear a mask. While a doggy mask would likely make for an adorable sight, we’re referring to owners, who will need to wear a face-covering while at the park.

You can still count on public amenities. Water fountains for pups and benches for humans will be available.

But dog beaches will remain closed. Fido won’t be able to frolic in the sand as beaches and beach parks will not allow dogs for the time being.

Social-distancing rules still apply. Keep a distance of six feet or more from other dog-owners, and be sure to get consent before going in to pet a stranger’s pup.
