If 2020 was the year of Instacart, 2023 is the year to get your butt back into the grocery store for some IRL shopping. Making the proposition all that more enticing is specialty grocer Plum Market, which just opened its first Florida store in Aventura.
Brothers Matthew and Marc Jonna, who cut their teeth in the industry with leadership jobs at Whole Foods, founded the family-owned chain in 2006. The two set out to launch a service-oriented grocer that promoted organic and locally sourced food, as well as included a fast-casual food component. Now with 25 stores across the country, Plum Market is giving Whole Foods a run for its money right here at home.
Its sprawling new Aventura store promises an assortment of seasonal produce, apothecary essentials, sustainably sourced meats and seafood, and chef-crafted prepared dishes (think grab-and-go meals, salads and the like). There’s also a sushi counter doling out rolls made onsite, plus a section for baked goods and specialty chocolate.
Shoppers can also expect to find a large array of locally sourced products. “Our team is committed to serving and supporting our community by sourcing the best local products, carrying well over 100 local brands,” says cofounder and CEO Matt Jonna. With that, Plum Market features a 40-foot-wide mural painted by Miami-based artists Chalk & Brush.
Plum Market is now open at 17801 Biscayne Boulevard, and a grand-opening celebration is scheduled for January 13 at 10am, when the first 100 guests to spend $100 will receive a limited-edition tote bag filled with swag. Free stuff is one way to deal with inflation—best to take advantage!
