Hot in Your Hood is our curated neighborhood series, where friends of Time Out Miami highlight the locally owned businesses they love in the areas they reside in. Read on to find out the spots these tastemakers recommend in the ’hoods they rep, from the fun stuff like great places to eat and shop to the practical things, like where they go to break a sweat or get something repaired. These mini-guides are personal recommendations intended to show support to our small-biz community—#notsponsored.

Coconut Grove will always be one of my top favorite areas in Miami. I’ve spent the majority of my life living there, and my parents still live there, so I’m around all the time. I’m witnessing its transformation! The neighborhood was always known for being artsy/hippie. It was a huge hot spot, died down and is now going through a renaissance with new and trendy bars, restaurants, shops, residences and hotels. It’s definitely more bougie now but has managed to keep a boho vibe, which is what is unique to the area. The Grove (as the locals call it) is still so special.

The Last Carrot

This small counter is a staple in the Grove from the “old Grove” days that people in the neighborhood love to tell you about. They’re known for their healthy wraps, salads, smoothies and juices. The staff makes everyone feel like a regular.

Bombay Darbar

This is my absolute favorite traditional Indian restaurant in Miami—the food is just so good. I’ve celebrated a bunch of my birthdays here.

Barracuda Taphouse & Grill (AKA ’Cuda’s)

From my days in college to present-day partying, I love going to ‘cuda’s, getting tipsy and playing beer pong. This is a Grove institution that also feels like that “old Grove” I mentioned above. The inside is closed now, but I still go by to grab a beer from the window and enjoy it on the street.

Therapia by Aroma

You’ll want to seek out this really cute store tucked inside a building on Main Highway. It’s filled with all kinds of all-natural skin-care products and candles the owners, a French family, handmakes in their workshop in Homestead.

Acee’s Icees

Hands down, Acee’s sells the best lemonade ever. The owner, also the brand’s mascot, is awesome. Catch him serving the frozen drinks almost every day from his truck at Kennedy Park.

Coconut Grove Organic Market

My favorite thing to do on Saturdays is visit this weekly farmers’ market. It’s outdoors and offers the best produce, there are so many vendors selling amazing products and food. I usually go and stock up for the week or go to grab lunch. My favorite vegan burger, PlantB, is there!

LoKal

Simply put, this is the best place to go for a well-made burger and a craft beer. What’s not to love?
