We’ve all been there. You’re walking through Dadeland Mall on a busy Saturday afternoon when, suddenly, you feel the mighty rubber wheels of a suitcase tread your bare toes. “F**k!” You yell at the hasty tourist, who’s just run you over with his discounted haul on his way to the next store. Why do travelers at a Miami mall act like they’re on an episode of Supermarket Sweep? We suspect it might have something to do with March being Shop Miami Month, when malls, boutiques and marketplaces offer special discounts to out-of-towners. A few stores will extend the savings to locals but the real discounts, including these below, are for those who can flash an out-of-state ID or international passport—which sounds like most real estate deals in Miami, to be honest.
- Southland Mall (20505 S Dixie Hwy, Cutler Bay): Free gift with purchases of $150 or more
- Bayside Marketplace (401 Biscayne Blvd): Spend $100 and receive a coupon book and a leather passport holder
- Bloomingdale’s at Aventura Mall (19501 Biscayne Blvd): Show proof of out-of-state residence and receive 15 percent of your purchase and a free gift when you spend $500 or more
- Miami International Mall (1455 NW 107th Ave, Doral): Spend more than $250 and receive a free tote and a coupon book for additional savings
- Dadeland Mall (7535 N Kendall Dr): Live 50 miles away or more from Miami and spend $600 or more on a single day to receive a free L’Voyage rolling suitcase (just please mind people’s toes, will you?)
- The Falls (8888 SW 136th St): Spend $200 and receive a $20 gift card or spend $400 and receive a $40 gift card, both can be used toward other mall purchases
Happy shopping!
