Well, that didn’t last long: South Beach’s most popular park has closed once again after reopening for less than a week.
South Pointe Park was one of the dozens of Miami Beach parks that reopened for residents last Wednesday, as part of phase one of the city’s plan to ease social-distancing restrictions. And now officials have shut it down once more.

According to Miami Beach Police, 7,329 verbal warnings were given to residents over the weekend and most of those went to folks hanging out at South Pointe. Cabin-fever seemingly got the best of crowds who, in their excitement to get outside, forgot to wear face coverings, picnicked when the ordinance only allows for walking/exercise, and congregated in groups larger than 10. Many of the people at the park over Saturday and Sunday weren’t even residents (another requirement for access), so the surrounding parking lots had to close down, too.
The city’s southernmost point has long been a favorite of picnickers and couples (it’s one of our favorite date spots in Miami), so it’s no surprise to see locals flock to the waterfront strip. But its sudden closure is certainly a bummer. Looking for an alternative in Miami Beach? Here are all the city parks still open for residents.
