Hotel Ponce de León feels more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The staff is personable and attentive—more than willing to throw a recommendation your way and point you in the right direction. The ‘20s building has some vintage touches (black and white photos on the wall, old newspaper clippings and wooden floors with stories to tell) but the rooms are mostly modern with humble appliances good enough to whip up a quick breakfast.
Neighborhood: Coral Gables is a relaxed chunk of Miami that oozes old Florida charm. But it's not just a sleepy alternative to South Beach. Gables packs some serious options when it comes to food, drink and culture—and is also very family friendly.
Nearby:
Versailles: Miami's essential Cuban restaurant
Just the Funny: Miami's longest running improv troupe with some stand-up sprinkled in
Pincho Factory: Burgers that will blow your mind
Time Out tip: Utilize the free trolley that runs up and down Ponce De Leon Boulevard (and throughout Coral Gables).
