Is it November 9th yet? While most of America can’t wait for this election cycle to be over, local music fans may want to stretch out this (insufferable) political season a little while longer. The reason? Famous musicians love campaigning in Miami!
Next on the list of celebrities to rally Miamians to vote with a free concert: Tip “T.I.” Harris, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Pusha T and Jay Electronica. The rappers will perform as part of the Young Gets It Done rally, sponsored by United Healthcare workers’ union 1199SEIU. Part show and part political demonstration, the event, hosted by radio personality Angie Martinez, is being billed as a call for African-American, Latino and Caribbean millennials to vote.
Unlike Jennifer Lopez’s recent pro-Hillary show at Bayfront Park, this celebrity-fused fest is not party driven. T.I., who made headlines for his so-called inability to support a female candidate (I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman, he said), has openly endorsed Trump. While Rick Ross, whose recent album, Black Market, was banned by Walmart for its scathing anti-Trump lyrics, has publicly said he’s #withher.
No matter what side of the ticket you’re on, it’s important that you vote—and take advantage of free hip-hop concerts whenever possible.
Florida Memorial University, 15800 NW 42nd Ave, Miami Gardens. Nov 7 5–10pm; free but RSVP is required.
