When LA-based DJ and musician Deorro comes to Miami, he doesn’t bother with Cuban food. Instead, the 24-year-old, whose real name is Erick Orrosquieta, goes straight for Peruvian. “My favorite things about Miami? That’s easy: the beaches and the ceviche!” Long nights working gigs during Winter Music Conference and at clubs such as Story—where he’s headlining this Friday night in support of “Bailar,” his hit collaboration with merengue star Elvis Crespo—means you’ll seldom find him in the water. Grabbing a quick bite at his favorite Miami restaurants, however, he always makes time for. We caught up with the Deorro ahead of Friday’s show to find out which restaurants he’s making a beeline for this time.
CVI.CHE 105
This place was recommended to me and I try and go every time I am in Miami. I wish it existed in LA! The Fuente Pacifico (a sharing platter of different ceviches) is my favorite item on the menu, but actually, everything is really good. (105 NE 3rd Ave, 305-577-3454)
El Chalan
This is a great Peruvian restaurant that is very authentic. My manager introduced me to it and since he is Peruvian, we go there every time we are in town. The style of ceviche served here is so good—I recommend everyone try it. (7971 Bird Rd, #17, 305-266-0212)
Coyo Taco
The tacos here are so good and remind me of Mexican street food. Everything is made on site and is authentic. There is always a line, but it is worth it. I think I am going to go there tonight! (2300 NW 2nd Ave, 305-573-8228)
