Monterrey, the list to eat 2024

This year, the list features the top choices and local cuisines for you to enjoy the delights of gastronomy in Monterrey

The ultimate list of the best restaurants in Monterrey is here. The list includes old favorites and new classics not to be missed.

Pinto Bar

Although it is not a restaurant as such, its snack is the one we pay attention to before a good vermouth, negroni or pinto sour. Order some pinto potatoes to whet your appetite followed by the flattened burger with cheese or opt for the rib tostada.

The vibe of the place is perfect to spend the afternoon in San Pedro Garza with a Diablito with cucumber, salt, tequila, icee with chamoy (Mexican sauce). Or you can opt for their craft beer menu.

Montacometa

This place is the paradise of regal desserts. It has been able to win the stomachs of all its diners with its top quality ingredients and by offering Mexican desserts in cakes, cookies or unique creations.

If you have a sweet tooth, without a doubt the "pinguino" cake should be your first choice, although delicacies such as the "empanada de ate" with cream cheese or the apple cheescacke with figs cannot be missing in your meetings.

The Montacometa sisters offer the vibe of family atmosphere and homemade flavor in their pastry proposal also supporting regional producers where they buy their inputs.

Casa Benell

In this place they make community around the food. Although they have expanded to other cities in Mexico, their comfort food and good vibes make it the perfect place to spend the afternoon.

The not to be missed is the Sammich Picaña that comes in a homemade bread, toasted with butter, sliced picaña, caramelized onion with a house sauce and a mixture of grilled cheeses. Although we opted for their NY style bagel that has a supreme cheese base.

Maverick

Since 2012, Maverick has been a hangout bar. And although attendees have fallen in love with their cocktails throughout this time, their food proposal is also a must. Accompany your Seville Fizz or your Port Margarita with Buttermilk Chicken, Pork Shawarma and Burrata with pesto.

Although the dishes serve more as accompaniments, the portions are enough to fill that little hole in your stomach.

Umami

The portions leave nothing to be desired, no matter how hungry you are, one bowl will be enough to satisfy you. Ramen is their specialty, the house one is called Umami, but you will also find spicy, vegetarian and Katsu miso. If you want something less soupy, then you can order rice, poke bowls or starters like aging and yakisoba with pork. A space that you cannot miss if you like Asian food.

Yokotan

For those cravings, there is Yokotan, a restaurant with Mexican dishes. If you want authenticity of flavors, the place will give it to you. It has chocolate enmoladas, enfrijoladas, pambazos, enchiladas verdes, fideo tacos and tortas de chilaquiles (in case you want to try a classic from the country's capital).

Prices may be a little high for locals, but it is an opportunity for visitors to get to know a variety of Mexican flavors in one place.

Grand Cru

We dare to say that this is one of the few restaurants in Monterrey —and in all of Mexico— that take a risk in the balance between menu, wine pairing and price. The tasting dishes are a good option if you reserve a table on the excuse of a celebration. As for the ambiance, we love the fact that on Mondays you can listen to jazz bands.

If you go straight to the a la carte options, we recommend the mussels with Roquefort cheese and the wellington steak.

Brutal

Doing justice to its name, in this place the arrachera and truffled potatoes are brutal. If you go during the hot season don't miss the mango and hibiscus mezcalitas.

Surprisingly, the attention of the waiters is one of the strong points here. So if you are planning a business meal, this place can be the top choice.

La Nacional

The "regio" steakhouse par excellence. The highlight of the menu is the asada taco. If you order it, we recommend accompanying it with marrow and a vegetable platter. When it's time for dessert, you can't leave without trying the pistachio pie.

Be warned, however, that the place tends to be a bit noisy. So, consider it more as a family or friends plan, rather than an option for romance or business.

Forno 1

This is a well-known restaurant in Monterrey for its authentic Neapolitan pizzas. Located in San Pedro Garza García, it offers a variety of wood-fired pizzas that have delighted even the most demanding diners. In addition to pizzas, the menu includes salads and beverage options to complement the culinary experience. The place is rather small, so reservations are recommended. However, if you prefer to stay in and avoid crowds, they have an efficient delivery service so you can enjoy their delights at home.
