Time Out says

A cabaret hotspot with a devil stamped on the men’s room door, two Mister Clean posters, a giant oyster hanging in the DJ booth, and a Pérez Prado poster guarded by “sharks.” But, the most magical piece is the image of Marilyn Monroe facing off with Jesus Christ that’s hanging at the bar.

This is La Perla, a cabaret that goes back to 1946, but had its moment in the 90s, when groups like La Lupita recorded their videos here. Since then only the prices have changed, but not the limited capacity, so try to get here before 10 to grab a good table.

The cover is 120 MXN per person for access to their drag shows, one at 11:30 pm (the only one if you go on a Thursday) and another at 1:30 am on Friday and Saturday. Prior to the show, they’re usually spinning old hits like Barry White or Earth, Wind & Fire and Cristian Castro.

La Perla was doing retro long before it was trendy. And today, it’s the place for anyone looking to reminisce. On any given night you’ll find yuppies, rockers, hipsters, foreigners, and any other clique you can think of all jamming out in harmony.

Before the shows start, the screen is used to project old runs of The Invisible Man and Baywatch but, set to the tunes of old Latin pop stars like Fresas con Crema or Timbiriche.

The liters of beer will run you 80 MXN and are the prefect sidekick for watching old Yuri, Paquita la del Barrio, or Lupita D’Alessio drag impersonators of nearly all age brackets. We think this place is a rite of passage… don’t miss it!
