As long as design has been in style, so has this museum. Beyond housing some of the discipline’s most relevant temporary exhibits, it’s also home to the country’s most important collection of decorative arts from the 16th-19th centuries.
If you’ve never been, and you’re just reading about it now, it might sound like the most boring place ever to visit. But in reality, starting just with the building itself, it’s a museum with a lot to offer. There are rooms set up with period decorations, paintings, furniture, textiles, silverware, ceramics, basically everything.
It’s worth paying attention to the temporary exhibits which are often excellent, and take advantage of seeing the permanent collection while you’re at it. For example, it’s the official Mexican headquarters of the World Press Photo.
