Since December of 2011, Cine Lido has been operated by the Cineteca Nacional and serves as one of its alternative venues. The use of multiple locations to promote the offer and services of the Cineteca Nacional has meant a great opportunity for film lovers around the city to find good international cinema closer to their neighborhoods. The forum has a capacity of 150 spectators, comfortable seats and a unique exhibition format in digital video. On Wednesdays it hosts “Miércoles de Cine y Letras” (Cinema and Letters Wednesdays), screening film adaptations of literary works. After each screening, the audience is invited to join discussion tables about the author who inspired the movie.
This small forum is actually a modest homage to the defunct Cine Lido, which opened in 1942 and after many years of glory succumbed to multiplex cinema chains. Now it occupies a privileged spot in the Centro Cultural Bella Época, next to the Rosario Castellanos library and an area for temporary exhibitions, in one of the most culturally active corners of the city.
