There was a lot of commotion caused by the opening of the Jumex Museum in Polanco in 2013 however the work being done at the original gallery Ecatepec is still very important for the contemporary art scene.
This gallery has not closed its doors; it is still very much active and houses more experimental exhibitions that are designed specifically for this space. "Here we exhibit projects with influence from both the immediate area of the gallery and as the extended area of Ecatepec, an industrial area, the most densely populated in the country guiding factor," says Patrick Charpenel , director of the Jumex Foundation.
In addition, the space gives many opportunities to the projects as a whole; in Ecatepec there is a winery and library, which is growing fast. We want to become the centre for consultation on major contemporary art in Mexico
This library houses thousands of titles on the theory of modern and contemporary art as well as catalogues of exhibitions, books and curatorial studies.
The gallery is open to the public free of charge but you need an appointment, its based in the Jumex factory in the State of Mexico and works as an artistic laboratory of conceptual art from the sixties to the nineties, it also gives out scholarships to students and professionals in the field of contemporary art.
