Artist Anuar Maauad was looking for a home and office space and instead found the ruins of a Porfirian-era house in la San Rafael.
“It was too big for me—2000 square meters—so I thought: “we could have residency programs here, exhibitions, workshops, round tables”. It's an alternative space, a place where artists, curators, institutions, museums and galleries can meet”.
But this house isn't a gallery. The purpose of the project is having residencies for artists as well as curators—both national and international. In order to achieve this, Maauad collaborated with ADF and other international galleries. Each month, a different artist is invited to live and work here. They have already invited renowned artists such as Theo Michael or Emilio Chapela.
Each room is decorated with different objects donated by the residents, which gives the place a unique vibe.
Exhibitions are displayed on the ground floor and changed monthly. They also have debates, screening and other activities related to contemporary art.
Reservation is required to visit them. Their events are always published on their Facebook page beforehand.
