This gallery stands out from the landscape not only for its white façade, but for its early 20th century architecture. Casa del Tiempo, an Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) institution, has been preserving and promoting culture for sixteen years.
Before the UAM took and restored the site, it served as the home of Foreign Relations Secretary Ezequiel Padilla, in 1940. Later, it housed the National Electricity Commission headquarters, that’s when the house underwent several alterations in ceilings, staircases and floors, losing its original structure but keeping the stained glasses and moldings.
Casa del Tiempo has a major cultural offer that stems from the humanities, literature and art. They hold a monthly film series with themes ranging from classic revolutionary movies to author films. Recitals from Bellas Artes musicians are a staple. They have an exhibition gallery and a bookstore stocked with the university publications. This is not the case with the library, though. Unfortunately, the room is just another hallway, as books can't be consulted.
All Casa del Tiempo activities are free, but some workshops may have an expenses fee.
