Seventeen towns around Victoria are vying for the prestigious accolade of the 2023 TAC Top Tourism Town Awards.
These annual awards recognise and reward Victorian towns that put in the hard yards to create an amazing experience for visitors by working together with local businesses, tourism operators and the local community.
Competition is fierce this year and nominations are in for the three award categories: Top Tourism Town (population above 5,000), Small Tourism Town (population 1,500-5,000) and Tiny Tourism Town (population fewer than 1,500).
To make it to this stage, each of the towns had to demonstrate its collaborative commitment to being the best destination they could be. Now, it’s time to open things up to the public, so you can have your say on your favourite town for a Victorian getaway.
Cast your vote by 5pm on June 22 to be part of the action. Better yet, you’ll also go in the draw to win a perfect Melbourne weekend for two thanks to Time Out and Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.
So, which towns are in it to win it? The finalists for Top Tourism Town are Ballarat, Bendigo, Echuca, Frankston, Lakes Entrance, Mildura, Warrnambool and Werribee.
The finalists for Top Small Tourism Town are Heathcote, Koroit, Sorrento and Woodend. For Top Tiny Tourism Town, it’s Aireys Inlet, Jamieson, Murchison, Noojee and Red Hill South are in the running.
Had a fabulous time visiting one of these towns? Let the Victoria Tourism Industry Council know! If your favourite town wins, it’ll represent Victoria at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards at Parliament House in September – we reckon that’s pretty cool.
If you’re visiting a finalist town, make sure you’re well rested before you get behind the wheel and plan a pause stop on your way.
The Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards are sponsored by the Transport Accident Commission, Department of Transport and Planning, Storytowns, Time Out, Tourism Australia and Victoria University.
