Sure blue skies and clear waters are always a good time, but diving in when the sun's not out is a highly underrated activity. For starters, you don't get burned. From glittering skyline views to big, bright starscapes, these hotel pools deliver after dark. Want to try it at home? Check out our favourite places to swim in Melbourne

1. Crown Metropol Hotel, Melbourne

Crown Metropol Melbourne’s indoor infinity pool, located on Level 27 of the tower, features views across the city’s CBD. Take a dip in the pool that’s encased in a two-floor high space with floor-to-ceiling window, or score one of the day beds and lounges on offer up until 9pm every day.

2. Fairmont the Palm, Dubai

Set on the beach among palm trees, the adults’ pool looks across to the skycrapers of the city and is open daily till 9pm. Drinks and snacks are available poolside.

3. Four Seasons Resort Maui, Hawaii

Sitting in an infinity pool at sunset with a Mai Tai in hand, watching North Pacific Humpback Whales breach, is one of the most amazing experiences to be had at any hotel in the world.

4. Park Hyatt, Shanghai

On Level 85, swim and frolic until 11pm in an indoor infinity pool and heated whirlpool that has views of the city and the Huangpu River. Then hit the bar afterwards for Martinis overlooking the skyscrapers until 1am daily.

5. Qualia, Hamilton Island

All of the ‘Windward’ pavilions (villas) at Qualia have private plunge pools, meaning you can look at the Whitsunday stars from the water any time of night. If you’re looking for more company, catch the last rays of the day at the Pebble Beach pool.
