This winter, QANTAS have increased their flights to Tasmania, so it's quicker and easier than ever to get to the Isle of the Curious. Tasmania is just an hour's flight from Melbourne, two hours from Sydney, and three from Brisbane.
In late July the Tasmanian coastal city of Devonport hosts a four-day jazz music festival,
with a cavalcade of off beat, memorable performances taking over the town.
This year's headliner is shining big band vocalist Emma Pask. So, great vibes and fantastic musicianship all round, then.
The festival runs from July 28-31. It's not just the big name that make the town come alive, jazz musicians will also play pop-up performances in unusual spaces – from high ceilinged churches to unused chocolate factories. And yes, there will be a lot of late nights in jazz dens, because if you're not partying like it's 1926, you're not even trying.
Joining Pask will be a mix of local talent and international stars to bring the bebop, latin, blues and fusion jazz to life across the scenic town. To compliment the festival there will also be film programs, visual arts, food experiences and markets across the four days.
The Jazz Festival is also a great excuse to do some more general exploring around North West Tasmania, which, between its prisitine coastline and bountiful farmlands is both naturally beautiful, and naturally delicious.
