By now, no doubt you’ve seen (and salivated over) all the world-class arts offerings at the Melbourne Festival – the city’s biggest showcase of international and local theatre, dance, visual art and music.
It’s impossible to see everything, but we’re giving you the chance to win double passes to three of the biggest program highlights, plus dinner for two beforehand at three of Melbourne’s finest eateries and restaurants.
First up is Under Siege: an epic spectacle by Yang Liping, one of China’s most famous dancers and choreographers and a judge on China’s So You Think You Can Dance. The work – which fuses contemporarychoreography, kung fu and Peking Opera – sees Yang teaming up with set and costume designer Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) to stir up a visual maelstrom of breathtaking imagery. Our Golden Ticket winner will score two free tickets to Under Siege, plus dinner at George Calombaris’ casual Greek restaurant, Gazi.
Second is Please, Continue (Hamlet): a real-deal murder trial of Hamlet for the murder of Polonius. This production by Dutch and Spanish artists Yan Duyvendak and Roger Bernat has received rave reviews internationally, and will be renewed in this Australian exclusive complete with a real judge, barristers and court psychologists. Prior to the show, you’ll be eating at Bombini Buzz: the new all-day eatery beside the Yarra on Southbank. As if that weren’t enough, your final experience will be a performance by Joep Beving. The Dutch pianist achieved huge success after uploading his contemporary compositions on Spotify for his friends and family. Beforehand, you’ll enjoy dinner at Ombra, Guy Grossi’s Italian salumi bar on Bourke Street.
