Summer and sunflowers are basically synonymous, so if you're keen to get your hands on a bunch of bright yellow blooms before the season ends, we've got the scoop.
A new sunflower-picking spot has opened up on Victoria's Surf Coast, just a stone's throw from Geelong. Surf Coast Sunflowers is welcoming visitors to The Patch to pick these fresh flowers, with sessions currently open throughout January. The farm is about an hour and a half by car from Melbourne, but we say it's well worth the day trip.
Entry prices are $10 for adults and $5 for kids, or $25 for a family of four. Once in the field, you can nab sunflowers for $3 per stem – you just need to bring something to cut the stems (secateurs should do the trick), wear closed-toe shoes and it's helpful to bring a bucket to carry your prized blooms in. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy in the field among the yellow beauties.
The Patch is open from 10am-3pm, Wednesday to Sunday, with additional twilight sessions from 5pm-8pm on weekends. You can book in for a daytime session here and a twilight one here. Happy sunflower season!
