Last seen at Sydney’s Vivid Festival in 2019, the open-air exhibition Robot Spaceland heads to Melbourne’s Chapel Street Precinct this summer.
Robot Spaceland imagines a not-too-distant future where a new, robot-led civilisation rises from post-industrial debris. The robots are made from upcycled materials and industrial waste, have flashing lights and emit sounds. According to Tim Bestman, creative director of XYZ Dimensions: “It sends a powerful message to the audience about the importance of recycling, and the message comes out even stronger when the light spectacle begins at night.”
You can witness these 17-metre-tall interactive robots as they hang out across four locations – Grattan Gardens, Prahran Square, the Chapel Off Chapel forecourt and the worksite at 402 Chapel Street.
See them across the precinct from January 14 to 31, at all hours of the day (but the light show happens after dark). The event is free.
