Hold your horses, the Renaissance ain’t over just yet! Beyoncé’s (in this writer’s firm opinion) best album may have been out for a while now, but that doesn’t mean we have to move fully into our Cowboy Carter era just yet.
Eight of Naarm/Melbourne’s premiere drag performers are banding together to perform the entire ballroom-disco masterpiece that is her Renaissance album on Sunday, June 9 – aka the King’s Birthday long weekend. This knockout night of entertainment will take place at Pride of Our Footscray, with doors opening at 9pm and shenanigans continuing until 2am.
An all-POC cast of performers will take the stage from 11pm, including internet it-girl Milo Hartill and reigning Miss First Nations Supreme Queen Cerulean. You’ll also be treated to performances from St Eve, D Flowers, Hotpink, Diloncé, Stone Motherless Cold and Tavonga.
Dress to slay in a Beyoncé or Renaissance-inspired outfit and you might just win a best dressed prize as you show off your best moves to tunes from DJs Big Boss, Freshxprincess and Jxn Miles.
Tickets are priced at $26 plus booking fee and you can get yours here. There’ll also be limited $30 tickets on the door. The ballroom scene heavily inspired Beyoncé’s Rennaissance album, so the organisers of this event are offering a discount code for members of the local ballroom community and free tickets for First Nations people and trans women of colour.
