Time Out says

Did you know there’s a circus school tucked away just back from Prahran’s busy Chapel Street precinct? The National Institute of Circus Arts casts a tall figure over Green Street, thanks to the towering ceiling that leaves ample space for aerial endeavours.

NICA is a national not-for-profit organisation and the only circus training institution of its kind in Australia. NICA provides professional training through a three year Bachelor of Circus Arts, preparing students for exciting careers in all facets of the circus industry. Competition for one of 24 places in the first year of the degree program is fierce and auditions are conducted at the end of the year.

If you’re thinking this place is full of dedicated athletes training for gymnastic feats, you’d be absolutely right. But on the other hand, NICA runs a whole bunch of much more approachable programs for kids, teens and adventurous adults. It’s a creative way to improve fitness, strength, coordination and flexibility for us regular folks. The organisation regularly runs school holiday programs, 'come and try' events, circus classes, parties and more. You can visit the NICA website to learn more or book a class.
