Jane Roberts, aka @studio_jane, has the privilege of watching Melbourne go by every day from one of the most beautiful locations in Melbourne; historic Flinders Lane. Here, she runs a boutique design studio called Hours After with her business partner Beth.
Having moved to Melbourne from Adelaide (via several years designing in London), Jane fell in love with the city as she slowly got to know Melbourne's secrets. "Inspiration sparks from so many places, all over Melbourne," she says. "I never seem to switch off with new ideas striking at the most random moments. I love visiting galleries on my weekends, checking out new interiors for long lazy brunches, going to the many craft and design markets Melbourne has to offer and music and cultural festivals like Sugar Mountain and Melbourne Music Week."
We asked Jane for her favourite places to explore in Melbourne.
"For shopping and craft-fuelled inspiration I can’t go past Craft Victoria, hidden gems in West Melbourne like Quirk & Co. and Guild of Objects, and Metropolis in Curtin House for a great design book."
"A mid-week night out with the girls to see a production at Malthouse Theatre, visiting a gallery opening or seeing a gig at The Forum."
"Working on a design project from our studio in the city, looking out the window over Treasury Gardens to see a hot air balloon go by."
"One of my favourite lunchtime cafés is KereKere in Fitzroy Gardens. Tom Thumb for my morning coffee, and Journal on Flinders Lane for client meetings. Also can't go past a weekend brunch at Square and Compass café in East Melbourne."
"I also love watching the sun rise and set on the water along the Docklands and Southbank as I ride to our Hours After studio from my home in the inner west."
