Time Out says

If you still hold things over your head and shout "By the power of Grayskull!" then we have the exhibition for you.

Masters of the Universe: Remastered is an exhibition of more than 1,000 toys and items from the popular 1980s cartoon series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. All your favourites are there, like He-Man, Skeletor and She-Ra, along with dozens and dozens of side characters. These include most of the 70 distinct figures that were made in the 1980s, as well as various iterations and updates that have come along through the years.

People have flown in from states all around Australia to see the exhibition, including fans who loved the series and toys when they were children and are now introducing their own children to the world of Eternia. "I realised it would have a cult following, but I didn’t realise what it meant to people. You’re not aware of how intrinsic it is in people’s childhood fabric," says Gabrielle Mcasey, general manager of Radio Velvet, which has put on the exhibition.

The exhibition isn't just action figures, either, with the walls and floor painted to create an immersive experience, and original He-Man-inspired art for sale as prints, T-shirts and pillows. In addition to the action figures, the display also includes merch like party hats, lunchboxes and other paraphernalia that were absolute must-haves for kids in the early 1980s. It's been curated by Eddie Zammit from the private collections of fans around the world.

"When you do a scale exhibition like that, it takes a lot of creative minds to do something to that scale," says Mcasey. "Even if you’re not a fan of Masters you can come in and really experience the immersion experience that that experience delivers."

The exhibition is free and is on at St Collins Lane until the end of March.
