If a Sunday spent eating scrumptious food and dancing to funky beats piques your interest, then pay attention. Throw a disco theme into the mix and it's a perfect day out – this is what the third annual LoJo Festival has in store this weekend.
It's a celebration of everything hip and happening along the beloved Lower Johnston Street strip, which runs between Collingwood and Abbotsford in Melbourne's north, with more than 40 beloved venues joining forces for a disco-filled party that will have crowds dancing long into the night.
Highlights of the street party will include a disco-inspired Best Dressed competition at Bodriggy Brewery, with Berry Hair Studio doing a pop-up hair styling booth so you can glam up your locks too. Plus, Hack Tatts will be on hand to immortalise the disco fever with their flash tattoos.
If you don't want your furry friends to miss out on the fun, don't fret. House of Plants is throwing an Italo disco party complete with a doggy runway, as well as loads of other venues along Johnston Street rolling out the welcome mat for your four-legged pals.
As the sun sets the party goes on, with Gilbee's wine bar hosting a live music disco group alongside mouthwatering disco-themed food and drink specials. Plus, Thin Slizzy's are putting on a World's Worst Karaoke comp, with drink specials that'll have you singing like Diana Ross in no time.
And that's not all! DJs and live bands will be setting the stage on fire at various venues throughout the day. Catch Benny James and The Allstar Retreat House Rocking Band at The Retreat in Abbotsford, groove to rotating disco-themed DJs at Nighthawks while sipping on retro concoctions or shimmy beneath the disco ball at Dr Morse, with expert dancefloor selectors Disco Mediterranea and Tropicana Melodia on the beats. So you've got plenty of options for where you choose to dance the night away.
It's all going down on Sunday, March 24, from 10am til late. For the full list of venues getting involved, check out the festival website. Best of all, entry is totally free.
