The teams behind Half Acre and Food and Desire have taken over the Carousel building at Albert Park Lake and its grassy surrounds, where you can have a lakeside picnic and lap up the sights of the seemingly mysterious Gunn Island or the CBD skyline.
Strewn across the Pelican Lawn are a bunch of striped umbrellas which can host groups of up to ten. All you need to do is bring your own rug, and grab a bite to eat from Carousel, then enjoy it under the shade of your personal brolly. There’s also furniture hire available if sitting on the ground isn’t your thing.
There will also be a pop-up bottle shop serving wine and cocktails, as well as live entertainment. The pop-up is open daily from 9am to sunset (weather permitting).
Start your day here with its takeaway breakfast options including acai bowls for the health-conscious, and bacon and eggs for those nursing a hangover. The menu also features everything from mezze platters with barbecue shawarma chicken, hummus and labneh, to summer pavlova ice cream, and a dessert that comes with a shot of espresso martini.
As of November 7, the Carousel will also open up its deck to offer à la carte dining. Dine right by the lake for lunch and dinner and book online.
