Just like that, the mega 10-day Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (MFWF) is right around the corner. Before your calendar fills up with the 200+ events on offer, we’ve found one you won’t want to miss.
On Friday, March 28, Southbank’s floating bar, Yarra Botanic, is joining forces with The Killara Foundation for a special MFWF event in celebration of Indigenous ingredients and flame-powered cooking.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a house-made spritz before taking part in a traditional smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country. The menu – crafted by Melbourne-based chefs Telina Menzies, Jerry Mai, Bente Grysbaek, Emma Jeffrey, Kay-Lene Tan and Diana Desensi – features eight canapés and a dessert, all showcasing Indigenous and local ingredients. Expect out-of-the-box but seriously delicious bites, think crocodile and macadamia with bunya satay, scallop and lemon aspen ceviche and even a wallaby and bone marrow cigar.
The night will feature a thoughtfully curated lineup of performances from First Nations and local artists, handpicked by renowned singer, songwriter and musical director David Arden. Complementing the evening’s theme, custom artwork by Jennifer Kent, from her First Nations Family Group, Manama Dreaming, will also be on display.
Tickets are on sale now for $175, with $10 from every purchase going towards the Killara Foundation who support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by providing pathways to employment, cultural connection and mentoring, and support in navigating the housing and labour markets.
