In addition to being a metropolitan cultural hub, Melbourne is also lucky enough to have several amazing nature trails just barely outside the city. That includes the K Road Cliffs. These cliffs wind above the Werribee River (‘Werribee’ actually means ‘backbone’ and is the name given to the river by the region’s traditional Indigenous owners) and are a popular spot for walkers and photographers, especially at sunset.
The cliffs are home to plenty of wildlife, with the area home to everything from wallabies to pelicans, and the proximity to Werribee Open Range Zoo means you just might hear a lion roar too. The cliffs are popular for both birdwatching and fishing.
While walking along the cliffs you’ll come to a lookout, from which you can get some great views of the Werribee River Park, Werribee Golf Course and even see the outline of the You Yangs in the distance. It takes roughly one to two hours to complete the full trail.
