Sharpen those knives: in exciting news for the Melbourne hospitality scene and for budding young chefs, Japanese restaurant group Okami has announced the opening of a new cooking school in Melbourne’s Richmond. Called Oak Leaf Education Institute, the new cooking school will open its doors to students from Monday, March 27, welcoming international students from all over the world to study alongside local students in this purpose-built cooking school.
This new school comes at an excellent time, providing a much-needed boost to the hospitality staff shortage in Australia. And really, we’re excited just thinking about the delicious food that’s to be cooked.
Featuring a large, state of the art, on-site commercial kitchen, Oak Leaf Education Institute will offer industry-accredited courses at affordable rates including Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and a Diploma of Hospitality Management. So if you’ve been thinking about becoming a chef, or are keen to learn more about the world of food, now’s the time.
As hands-on experience is so important, students will also be offered a guaranteed work placement at the expanding network of Okami restaurants across Australia, which are renowned for its all-you-can-eat style menus featuring fresh produce.
Oak Leaf Education Institute’s opening event was held on Friday, February 3 and kicked off with a bang with MasterChef runner-up Sarah Todd conducting a cooking demonstration, and Adam D’Syla (Tonka) and Dulan Hapuarachchi, MasterChef 2022, in attendance.
