South Yarra's food and entertainment hub has been around since the 1850s, though not quite in the same incarnation as it is today. It first opened as a brewery in 1858, and yes – it was, from the late 19th century until 1970, a factory of jam. Incidentally, did you know that the heyday for preserves was before the '50s, which was when Aussies started eating more fresh fruit?
These days, the Jam Factory is host to Village Cinemas, several clothing and shoe shops, as well as several mid-range restaurants and fast food eateries.
