It’s safe to say that Oktoberfest is always a big deal at Hofbräuhaus Melbourne, the city’s much-loved slice of Bavaria. However, it’s not every year that a venue like this turns 55 years old, marking more than half a century of German culture in the heart of Chinatown.
Hofbräuhaus is commemorating this momentous occasion with a spectacular suite of performances, specials, competitions and all round Bavarian shenanigans spanning six weeks from September 16 until October 28 (on Thursdays through Sundays).
Everything kicks off with the famous opening party on Saturday, September 16, where you can compete in the traditional Stein carrying competition to win free bier for an entire year. Ja, that’s right – two lucky winners will get one free Bavarian Bier every time they come in anytime during the 365 days following the opening party.
Apart from their usual vast offering of imported German premium bier, the Hofbräuhaus crew has secured some special brews from Bavaria and Austria, which you can enjoy alongside live Bavarian entertainment all day long and throughout the season. There’ll also be a special Oktoberfest menu available to satisfy the cravings of your inner Bavarian until October 28.
If you show up to Hofbräuhaus's Alpine Bar in your best Bavarian outfit from 4-5pm on any Saturday in October, you'll also be able to score a 300ml Bavarian Bier for $4.
Hofbräuhaus willl also come alive for nine nights only with the rambunctious sounds of German Oktoberfest band Die Oachkatzl Musi. They'll be rocking the house with their toe-tapping, bier-raising tunes on September 16, 22, 29 and 30. The music will continue on October 6, 13, 20, 21 and 28. The Haus Band will also be playing on all other Thursdays through Sundays throughout the season.
Entry to Hofbräuhaus Melbourne is free, including to the opening party. The Bavarian vibes, biers and tunes will be flowing from 6.30pm until late on Thursdays through Sundays.
