This December, House of Dévine and Dancehouse are bringing ballroom culture and voguing to the spotlight with Free Ball. On December 11 Victoria's best voguers will battle it out for the top spot in front of hundreds of ballroom enthusiasts and fellow performers.
During the five-hour ball, ten queer and trans People of Colour will embody ideas of freedom and draw from their lived experiences to create an event rooted in history and culture. Featuring LGBTQIA+ royalty like Billy Iman and House of Silky, this is an event not to be missed.
This year's ball is a competition with a twist. Free Ball is ditching the typical prize structure of the ball, where winners would normally receive prize money as well as a trophy, and instead opting to pay all competitors equally. Meaning the Free Ball prize is equality and equal pay.
House of Dévine has also thrown some of the registrations requirements out the window which means that registration is not only open to members of House of Dévine, but also to free agents. Normally ballroom competitors come from within the hosting house but House of Dévine is bringing together the ballroom community to celebrate all things voguing and the LGBTQIA+ community.
